Prior to treatment, my life was real crazy. We had no money, checks bouncing all over town. We weren't seeing friends and family. It was just real bad. We were constantly arguing, not feeling good, not wanting to do anything, just making excuses and ending up in another bar gambling again. It just got really bad. We got to the point where we couldn't pay any bills, looked like we were going to lose our house. We lost our garbage service. We lost everything. I just felt like I didn't want to be around, didn't want to do anything any more, just didn't want to do it. We called the help line and found out about Project Stop, and they put a lot more regimentation into our lives, a lot more help and knowledge about the way we gambled. It helped us out a whole lot. We are finally starting to pay our bills again. We still don't have garbage service and this and that, but at least we're getting a lot of help getting set in the right direction and understanding why we gamble.

How was my life prior to treatment? I just felt like getting a divorce from my husband, I could hardly tolerate him. He was uncommunicative, sat and watched television all the time. We didn't have any life at all. What made us seek treatment was Bob. He somehow recognized he had reached bottom. He had gambled before and the stopped for five years and then he was in a relapse. He was able to recognize it and seek treatment. My life has changed since entering the treatment program. There have been a lot of ups and downs, but we've had a lot of growth on both our parts. I am better able to understand his problem -- that it is an illness. We communicate more. We've had a lot of therapy and counseling and our lives together are happier. I am going to stay with him and try to make this marriage work. If there had been no treatment available, I would absolutely be divorced, away from him and who knows what else?

My life prior to my husband and myself seeking treatment was, quite frankly, intolerable. Things could not have continued the way they were. There was a feeling of total helplessness. Project Stop has finally given us something to look forward to and not have these hopeless feelings. I feel the future is good now. Prior to this program, there was no future for my husband and I. We finally did seek treatment because Howard hit his bottom. Basically it was an ultimatum that he had to get treatment or we were finished. My life has changed so much since entering the program. It's like night and day. There is an incredible difference. My husband is now thinking healthy. He deals with his problem in a healthy way. We are communicating more. It is just incredible to see the change in my husband. Everything looks a lot better. Quite frankly, if there was no treatment program, I think we would be divorced and I don't think Howard would have changed.
